All-on-4 vs. Traditional Implants: Which Option Suits Your Smile?
Dental implants are the top choice for tooth replacement, but they offer more than one option to achieve that goal. Traditional implants and All-on-4® are both popular today, but which one suits your smile?

At Pioneer Dental Group in Norwalk, California, Dr. Behzad Binafard is a leading dental implant expert with more than 25 years of specialized experience. Dr. Binafard and our team believe our patients always deserve the very best in dental implant technology, and that’s why we offer a range of options.

Both traditional implants and All-on-4® have their advantages, and choosing between them depends on your specific needs and goals for your smile.

Traditional implants

Traditional dental implants replace missing teeth one at a time. Each implant consists of a titanium post surgically placed into your jawbone. The post replaces your tooth root.

After the implant integrates with your bone, a process that can take several months, Dr. Binafard attaches a connector called an abutment. A custom-made dental crown attaches to the abutment, creating a natural-looking replacement tooth.

Traditional implants can replace a single tooth, several teeth, or even a full arch. For full‑arch cases, you don’t need an implant for every missing tooth — instead, a series of implants (often 4–8 per arch) support a fixed bridge.

With traditional implants, it’s important to have good jawbone density. If you have too little jawbone, it might not provide the depth the implant post needs to stay securely in place.

All-on-4

All-on-4 is a system for whole-arch tooth replacement. It’s designed for people who are missing all or most of their upper or lower teeth.

Instead of using an implant for each tooth, All-on-4 includes four implants that hold the entire arch of replacement teeth in place. This full arch is fixed in place — it isn’t removable like traditional dentures — which many patients appreciate for comfort, stability, and confidence.

Two implants are positioned vertically in the front of your jaw, where bone is usually strongest. The other two implants are placed farther back and angled about 30-45 degrees to maximize support and avoid anatomical structures such as your sinus cavities or nerves.

All‑on‑4 can be a strong option for patients with reduced jawbone density because the angled placement of the implants often provides enough stability to avoid bone grafting and support a fixed full‑arch restoration with fewer implants.

All-on-4 is more stable and longer‑lasting than traditional removable dentures
